Meet Luella

She's the newest member of my family...born on my birthday.  Compliments of Alexis.  I now have a new bed buddy!  That sounds kind of weird....but it's true.

Plans are for Losers

Seriously, who has time to make plans for anything?  They never turn out anyways!  Remember this post from last year about this time??  My awesome winter plans came to a crashing halt which forced me to stay in Rexburg for the semester.  Not that I didn't have fun, it was a blast, but it's kind of a pain to readjust.  And now, I'm readjusting yet AGAIN.  Great.

Those awesome plans about going to Jerusalem to study in the winter?  Youuuuu guessed it.  They had about 200 people apply for 80 spots and I kept with tradition and failed to win a spot (it was a random drawing).  I can't say I'm not disappointed.  If I were at home and I had a room to myself I would probably bawl my eyes out but seeing as I'm in an apartment and have an image to keep up I'll settle for vent-blogging.

Enough with the sad news.  This morning I modeled for a new campus anti-piracy advertisement.  The posters should be all around campus before school starts in September...sadly, he photographed my bad side so if the picture is kind of weird, that's what I'm blaming it on.  Then, after work, I got a call letting me know I got a position being an i-team leader for the fall!  I've always thought it would be something fun to do so I'm glad I get the chance to do it : )

Well, it's definitely been an up and then down day but Hillary and I went and got ice cream and are currently watching a chick flick so it's picking back up a little.  Everything happens for a reason and this is just another one of those times.  Back to "Plan B" again....

Full Tummies and Painted Faces

Yesterday was just a fantastic day!  I got up at 7:30 and started doing errands and chores around the apartment.  For lunch, Blake and I went to the Madison County fair and partook of a free baked potato bar!  It was one of the best baked potatoes I'd ever had!

After lunch we went to the park where I was going to read my book and then take a nap.  Conversely, I ended up reading Blake's book to him and he proceeded to fall asleep.  So I didn't get to read any of my book and I didn't get a nap....boys.

In the evening we had a very fun double date with my roommate Marissa and her boyfriend Matt!

They played nicer than we did....
We finished out the evening by watching How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days.  You can see the power the girls hold in these relationships ; )

If I had a Wish...

Past birthday's have been fairly uneventful.  I'm not complaining.  I'm merely pointing out the fact that my parents never hired a clown or ponies to be there.

Last Friday I had a combined party with Alexis because her birthday was on the 16th.  We did it at her house in Rigby.  There was food & games and then we watched a movie on a big sheet outside.
I feel like this picture illustrates our relationship...and my relationship to chocolate.
Yesterday was quite the day though.  And for good reason...I'm not a teenage anymore : )  Hip, hip hooray!!

I went in to work at 8:00 as usual.  Have I mentioned I love my job and the people I work with?  Well, they're awesome.  I got a card and delicious chocolate bar PLUS my desk was decorated.  I got so many birthday wishes from complete strangers!  Some boys from Chicago even sang me happy birthday in Spanish.

To make work even better, Sarah made some yummy birthday treats!  They are brownie bites.  The ones on the left have cream cheese frosting and a raspberry fresh from her garden and the right has peanut butter frosting with a peanut butter cup slice on top.

Last night, Blake took me out to Cafe Rio in Idaho Falls.  Here's where the funny story starts.... We parked the car at the temple to walk around the river and when we went back to the car at 11:30 to head home the gates to the temple had been locked...with his car inside.  Long story short, a friend from Rexburg came to get us and we got home around 1:00 this morning and then Blake went back to IF around 9:00 to pick his car up.  Thankfully it wasn't towed or anything!

My gift in the highest amount?  Well I got two bars of chocolate, a bag of chocolate chips, and a brownie mix in the food category.  My friends know me way too well.

Blake made me an apron.
All-in-all it was definitely an excellent birthday!

Thanks for the Warning

Apparently while I was at work today the cleaners stopped by to clean our carpets...giving Marissa and Hillary only a few minutes notice to get everything on our carpets, off of the carpet.  Let's just say our apartment is a little messy at the moment.

Marissa got creative since there's stuff piled on all of our beds.

And yes, technically it's my birthday right now but since I haven't gone to bed yet I'm counting this post as being on the 16th.  Happy 20th to myself!!!

Books, books, I love books!

I went to the public library yesterday and finally got a library card!  I feel like an official member of the Rexburg community now.  Blake and I have been going every Thursday to get stuff.  Let me tell you, this is the most high-tech library I've ever been in.  They have self check-outs AND this amazing machine that sorts the books you return.  I should take a picture of it sometime because it would be too hard to describe.  Anywho, I love the library!!!

A Mistake Worth Making

Desperate times call for desperate measures.  I accidentally broke Brittany's bookshelf a few weeks ago and knew I had to find something to replace it.  Blake and I found this beauty at the DI today!

Okay, so at first glance it definitely wasn't that beautiful . . . but it had potential.  Plus it really was our only option.  We made a pit stop at Walmart and picked up some paint and buttons (a last minute decision) then headed back to his apartment.

After painting the shelves we realized there was nothing on the sides to hold her DVDs in place . . . off to Porters!!!  We got some balsa wood, painstakingly cut the boards to the right lengths, painted them, and used some hot glue magic.  BAM!  There are now edges to the shelf.

Next, I glued the buttons to the sides to add a little more color and pizazz.

And VIOLA!!!!  An absolutely ugly aluminum shelf was turned into an adorable creation for Brittany's room.

Although we both had a blast with this little art project I don't plan on breaking any more of my roommate's things in the near future.  Next time, maybe I'll make something I can actually keep. . .

Mmmm Mmm Good!

It wasn't exactly the cold, rainy day it was yesterday . . . but our homemade chicken noodle soup and wheat rolls still tasted delicious!
